Investment casting, also know as Lost Wax Casting is a precision casting process. Investment casting uses wax to act as mould, the wax will be covered in multiple layers of silicon sand after which the wax will be removed. Precision casting means that the casting process itself can achieve tight tolerances with smooth surfaces, with the result that the amount of machining is reduced or not longer required afterwards.
PremaTec has experience in Investment casting big casting made out of precious metals like: Duplex, Super Duplex, Stainless steels, Nickel based alloys and other alloys.
Prior to mould manufacturing, PremaTec makes a casting simulation using advanced casting software to reduce risk of casting defects and optimize the casting process.

Sand casting is a more common way of casting parts. The sand casting process uses a pattern which then is pressed into special moulding sand to create a casting mould.
Sand casting is not as precise as investment casting. But sand casting is more applicable for big castings or parts that needs to be machined anyway. The mould making in sand casting is way faster as investment casting which makes the lead time shorter.
Sand casting is often used for parts which need partial machining, so some surfaces of the cast will be left as-cast and other surfaces will be machined to the required dimensions.
